A medium sized bird (about 55cm), a common resident throughout South Africa and Africa south of the Sahara, Madagascar and Arabia. It lives adjacent most inland waters and feeds mainly off frogs, and sometimes fish. The nest is a huge hollow oven shaped mass of sticks built in a strong fork of a tree with the entrance facing downwards.
